Local Supermarkets - with labels for healthy choice
There are many local supermarkets like ACME, ShopRite, Zabers, Norton Williams, Fairview, Asian supermarkets like Mitsuwa, Daido, Sunrise, Hmart, etc, etc, in NYC and NJ area. Even they are general type of supermarkets (not specialized for organic/healthy choice), almost all supermarkets have the sections to have gluten free/organic/all other healthy choices of foods.
Also, they put all the labels for each product with details to show gluten free, nut free, etc with price on the shelves. So, it is easy to find the product without seeing the ingredients label on the product. And, we also have local small specialized organic/healthy choice supermarkets also. We also found the gluten free choice from Japan such as curry powder, ramen and udon noodles, made by rice flour in Japanese supermarket, Mitsuwa. There are not many products, but little by little popular.
American supermarkets have tons of selections, and more and more new gluten free products by manufacturers. I always see something new everytime I go to supermarket. Amical Table always look and offer new product for you to have new experience for healthy life!
Trader Joe's
Trader Joe's - Popular and reasonable price
Trader Joe's is originally from West Coast, and expanded the business to East Coast in recent 10 years, and they specialized in Organic and healthy foods in reasonable price. They have lots of products with their own brand, and different type of food from fresh vegetable/fruits to coffee, wines, frozen foods and more. They, of course, have lots of organic, gluten free and healthy foods that you can't find in other supermarkets.
Whole Foods
Whole Foods - specialized in High End Organic/healthy foods
Whole Foods are recently bought by Amazon.com, and it was very surprised by many people. Whole Foods market has many locations and specialized in organic and healthy foods, and they also have own brand's products. Especially, they have variety of vegetables and fruits in very fresh and good conditions, and they have their own style of piling up the vegetables as is, and special method to keep them fresh by sparkling water automatically.
Their opened high ceiling of interior welcomes you all the time, catering foods and bakery (not gluten free, unfortunately) are pretty good, and so many kinds of cheese, coffees, and even organic cosmetics and more. It is very popular to get healthy and fresh foods by many health concious people.
Specialty Store
Specialty Store
There are many small local specialty stores/supermarkets for organic/gluten free foods other than big organic supermarkets like Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. Also, some restaurants for vegan, or offer superfoods as healthy choice. (sometimes are not gluten free)
Also, big franchaise stores for organic/healthy choice - such as Dean & Deluca, Bare burger (there are 2 stores in Tokyo), Panera bread (bread is not gluten free, but they offer the salad with superfoods, etc), hoenygrow (speciality for salad for vegan) and more.
Many many choices for many people!
Local Bakeries
Local Bakeries
There are many local specialized bakeries to produce creative with ingredients and tasty bakery products like bread, cakes, cookies and more. They sometimes are regular bakery, but there is the sections/shelves to offer gluten free bakery products.
We find them all over the places, and many choices for the bakery goods now.
Restaurants and Hotels
Many Restaurants and Hotels to have option for gluten free
There are many restaurants who specialized in gluten free, vegan, etc, and also regular restaurants with menu with option to select gluten free choice or GF mark to make sure there is no gluten in the menu, so that we can select the food in safe.
This is one of restaurants, Stella 34 on 34th street in NYC, inside of Macy's department store (headquarter). It is spacious, white and modern themed Italian restaurant. You can see the option to have gluten free pasta if you like (need to ask). You see in the menu. There are many restaurants to show GF mark on the menu for the customer to know there is no glutens or choice to change to gluten free ingredients. So, everyone can enjoy the food in safe. They usually serve the bread before the meal, and we told them not to have (because of gluten). Then, waitress brought over rice cracker instead (gluten free. See the picture below) It tastes like almost Japanese little salty rice cracker (Osen-bei). It is nice surprise and service to think about us! This type of service are in many restaurants for health concious customers in US. We also found out the breakfast service in hotel to have choice for gluten free bread and cereals.
Gluten Free Expo
Gluten Free Expo
(Their mission - from website) The Gluten Free & Allergen Friendly Expo is dedicated to meeting the needs of the celiac community, those with gluten and food sensitivities, auto-immune/inflammatory diseases, and autism. The public is helped through vendor expositions, educational sessions, and online resources. The manufacturers are serviced through vendor expositions, marketing programs, and consultative services.(END)
Because of many people concerns health, and suffers allergy or gluten sensitive issue including celiac desease, Gluten Free Expo is exhibited in all over the US. I went to the expo in NJ on October, 2016, and surprised to see so many people were there, and so many vendors from big companies to local stores, even chef, nutrients, and more. Many people were trying to eat the foods at booth, and even little girl was asking about what ingredients are.
There were special seminars you can take for free, some presents (foods...) and more. I found Japanese vendor from Kumamoto showing the pancake mix by rice flour. I tried almost all the foods there, and I could feel the passion from vendors to offer their creative gluten free foods, and concious about the health!
Starbucks - It is worldwide franchaise for coffee and more. There are regular items like bread and snacks to go with coffee. But, in US, it is changing more to offer healthy choice with gluten free food and snacks in the rack. Isn't it amazing to spread more good choices?
